If Barbie is so popular, why do you have to buy her friends?

So last Friday I get a call at about 4:00pm from Jaclyn Chavez asking to lead worship for her. This is somewhat unusual since she normally gives me a little more notice, but due to the circumstances she really needed someone to cover for her. Of course I didn’t really have a problem with that so I agreed to help her out. At around 6:30pm I went to the clamshell to sound check and get ready. However when I got there Joel was trying to get the sound running and mostly everyone was running late. The rhythm section wasn’t there yet and neither was they keyboard player or Tisha (they were both stuck in traffic). Then to cap it all off the rear monitors weren’t working.

By the time 7:00pm rolled around, we were still missing people and the rear monitors still weren’t working. Finally at 7:15pm I got everyone that wasn’t working on the rear monitors together to pray. We all prayed together while the others worked on the rear monitors. In case you’re wondering, the rear monitors are really important because without them the rhythm section cannot hear what I’m doing and we’re basically flying blind together. So to make a long story short, we finally got the rear monitors working about 3 minutes before we had to start.

By the time we started playing, the monitors were not all properly set and Joel had to try to keep adjusting everything on the fly. The only problem I had left was a lack of drums and bass in my monitor. I didn’t feel like asking for more drums and bass during a song so I decided to just keep playing through it. Due to the changes in our service lineup, after one song we play the videos and do the announcements. Because I was slightly frustrated I decided to pray.

Now at this point, I didn’t really know what to pray for but I did know that the Bible says, “He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself” (1 Corinthians 14:4) and I really did need encouraging so I started praying in tongues. Sure enough as soon as I started praying I began to feel a little better. What really blew me away was when I heard Tisha come beside me and start praying in tongues with me. When that happened something really cool happened. I felt the Holy Spirit come upon me and charge me up. I really believe this happened because Tisha came and prayed in agreement with me. Now I know that she didn’t know exactly what she was praying for (just as I didn’t), but I know by faith, that the Holy Spirit was interceding on our behalf and our prayers were the perfect prayers and they were in perfect agreement. There is incredible power in agreement. The Bible asks, “Can two walk together, except they be agreed?” (Amos 3:3) This means that if you want to go anywhere with anyone, there needs to be agreement. This is the agreement that says “one [can] chase a thousand, and two put ten thousand to flight” (Deuteronomy 32:30). Two people in agreement can put ten times as many people to flight as one can by himself. Likewise, disagreement can completely counter anything that you’re trying to do, so it is imperative that you find someone to agree with you and the Word.
