Brisbane Grinds: Max Brenner

Brisbane Grinds: Max Brenner

After walking along South Bank for a few hours and playing on their wonderful playground, we decided we wanted something to satiate out sweet tooth. Look no further than Max Brenner: Chocolate by the Bald Man. Upon entering you could immediately tell that they take chocolate very seriously. Everything oozed of chocolate, from the decor, to the smells, to the giant chocolate mixers. If there was a chocolate heaven, this would be it.

It mixes the chocolate. Makes it light and frothy.

To start, I had a cappuccino in a kangaroo cup and the girls shared an 80s chocolate milkshake. What’s a kangaroo cup you may ask? It’s a cup will a little trough on the side that is designed for little chocolate pieces. The heat of the coffee then melts the chocolate and allows it to dribble down into the coffee creating an incredible mocha flavor. A little messy, but so worth it. The girls milkshake was also extremely rich being a chocolate milkshake topped with vanilla ice cream topped with a milk chocolate shell. I don’t think they had a clever name for the cup but I did appreciate that they had a hole in the cup that holds the straw. It made for a much more convenient drink.

My cappuccino in the famous kangaroo cup

This is definitely in my top 5 milkshakes ever!

Then we were on to the star of the show! Called the Ott Pizza, the dish consisted of a waffle and brownie bits topped with ice cream, marshmallows, cornflakes, whipped cream, and chocolate drizzled on top. It was big enough to share with all of us (and there were 7 of us eating it). It was warm and gooey and a sweetness overload. When the pizza first arrived the waffle was still warm and crisp and there was a definite sense of urgency to eating it as we didn’t want everything to get soggy and melt together. The mix of crunchiness and creamy chocolate and marshmallow made for the perfect marriage. We all ate until we could eat no more. I guess you really can have too much of a good thing as we gave it our best effort but we were unable to finish it all.

It’s like a party in your mouth

Next time you’re in Brisbane and you’re looking for somewhere to indulge your chocolate cravings I definitely recommend Max Brenner!
