New Blogs I’m Excited About

New Blogs I’m Excited About

So I’ve been a church employee now for the past 7 years or so and during that time I’ve worn several different hats. When I first started I was an intern in charge of the college ministry. Then after two years of that I did the college ministry and I also worked on the maintenance crew outside with Uncle Augie (20 hours each). Then, they moved me to the Singles ministry (where I met my wife Keao). Then in addition to the Singles ministry I also took the job of operations manager. But they gave that portion of my job away so I picked up the Sports ministry (still following?). Finally in the last year I did the Singles (and expanded it to include Couples too), the Sport ministry, Community Service and now my fourth hat IT. I did this all in the span of 7 years.

Of all the things I’ve done, I think I may be least qualified to do the IT. I mean, I like computers and everything but I really have very little formal training on all things related to computers. Maybe it’s because I spend so much time online. Who knows?

One of the first things I’ve been doing recently is trying to get our staff more in tuned with technology and keeping their webpages fresh and with new content. I’m also encouraging them to use more social media like Facebook, Twitter and blogging.

Every once in awhile, I’ll say something good and you know what? People are listening. We now have two more staff members starting blogs. I hope they keep it up (I’m subscribing with my Google reader). So without further ado, if you’re interested, here are our two latest staff blogs.

  1. what happened to the macjournal entry? I read it on google reader. I am thinking about getting a mac. There might be a business opportunity to become a subrep for light and motion, hammerhead spearguns, and something else, but i thought with the light and motion it would be helpful to have a mac with all the video editing stuff. anyways so if you have any pointers, recommendations, etc. would be greatly appreciated

  2. you should also have the staff move over to wordpress, it is much nicer to leave comments without having to login to facebook, signup for a posterous account, or sigh up for a twitter account.

  3. yeah we can talk about it. macjournal is pretty cool. you create the blog on your desktop and you can upload it with one click. it’s easier to use because you don’t have to upload your pictures or videos separately.

the staff is using posterous because it’s super, super easy. you just email them your text and your pictures and they format it for you.

  4. Hi Scott,

This is so exciting! You are encouraging me. Thinking that I had to write or say things that people would approve of put a huge, year-long road block on my blogging. Honestly, it is like I have emerged from a cocoon or something. Encourage your people to just have fun and to write from their hearts…no matter the format or proper composition, this will come. I feel like I am back on track and hopefully will continue to not only stay there, but to encourage others. A young friend, Kamele, who is a Kamehameha Kapalama graduate and graphic designer, just decided to go with wordpress, so I am forwarding your blog to her…she is looking for input, especially from “real people”. Hope all is well.

    God Bless,

    Aunty Connie
